Abstract
1509361 Gas analysis DISTILLERS CO (CARBON DIOXIDE) Ltd 6 Jan 1977 [8 Jan 1976] 00680/76 Addition to 1467048 Heading G1B A detector for detecting the presence of a particular gas in a mixture of gases is a modification of that of Parent Specification and comprises a space 3 bounded in part by a membrane 2 which is preferentially permeable to the particular gas and bounded in part by a thin flexible diaphragm which as shown may be formed by the same piece of material as is membrane 2, movement of the diaphragm being arranged to control flow through a nozzle 8 to which in use gas is supplied from pipe 14 at a steady pressure, and means 9, 10, 11, 4 to supply the mixture of gases to one face of the membrane, the arrangement being such that when the particular gas is present in the mixture it permeates through the membrane and changes the pressure in space 3 so causing the diaphragm to bow to produce a change of pressure in the supply of gas upstream from nozzle 8 and consequently a pneumatic signal at 16 to indicate the presence of the particular gas in the mixture. The detector may be used to detect carbon dioxide in the cellar of a public house, when the membrane is of silicone rubber and fresh air from outside the cellar is used as the atmosphere surrounding the space.
