Abstract
1438913 Detecting exhaust gases A E TROOP 19 March 1974 [26 March 1973] 12099/74 Heading G1B A device for detecting the presence of gas leakage from an engine into its cooling system comprises an at least partially transparent or translucent chamber 4 which, in operation, contains a liquid test reagent 2 which changes visibly, e.g. in colour, when contacted with exhaust gases (CO and CO 2 ), the change being reversible when the gas is displaced by aspirating the device with air by means of the aspirator bulb I attached to the tube 5a. At the lower end, the chamber is connected with a sampling nozzle 7 containing a non-return valve 6 via a gas diffuser 15 through which sampled gas passes into the liquid. Purging of the apparatus is achieved by removing the nozzle assembly (with the device inverted) and introducing air via the aspirator.
