Abstract

1509149 Mixing apparatus RIZH POLITEKHNICHE INST 17 Sept 1976 38698/76 Heading B1C Apparatus for mixing glass fibres with a granular or powdered polymer comprises a cylindrical chamber 4 having a rotatable axial shaft 3 carrying a cutter assembly 6 the blades of which chop a glass fibre strand 12 as it emerges from a nozzle (5, Fig. 3 not shown) at the end of an inlet tube 8. The polymer 11 is introduced through an axial inlet b and is mixed with the chopped strand by the turbulent vortex created by the cutter and the mixture discharged in a current of air through a tangential outlet 13. The fibre strand is metered by counter-rotating rolls 9 and advanced by compressed air admitted through an inlet 10 tangential to the pipe 8; the rolls are mechanically connected to the shaft 3 to control the chopped strand length.
