Abstract

1509044 Vibrating wire strain gauges BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 23 April 1976 [2 May 1975] 18559/75 Addition to 1336311 Heading G1G The vibrating wire strain gauge of the parent Specification used for monitoring longitudinal loads in rails is modified by having an annular coil 7 surrounding a single polepiece 8, the polepiece extending along the axis of the ring 3 across which a wire 1, 2 is clamped at its ends. The polepieces 8 and ferromagnetic end-plate 9 may be integral. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the ring (13) may be a two-part coaxial-construction, one removable part (13b) bearing the coil. The other part (13a) bearing the wire is left in the rail web 12.
