Abstract

1508534 Double belt machines SANDVIK CONVEYOR GmbH 9 Aug 1976 [12 Aug 1975 14 July 1976] 33088/76 Heading B5A In a double belt machine for processing a sheet 15 of, for example, glass fibre reinforced plastics, a pair of steel belts 14, 16 sandwich the sheet and pass over a heating drum 6 and a cooling drum 7. Each belt is provided on its drum contacting side with guide means which co-operates with the drum to prevent lateral movement of the belt and the length of unsupported belts extending between the drums in such that the belts act as rigid columns thereby preventing separation of the belts in that region. In one embodiment (see Figs. 2 and 5), a belt is provided on its drum contacting face with a longitudinally extending ridge of V-shaped cross-section comprising a helically wound steel strip 50 which is received in a correspondingly shaped groove 52, 66, 68 in the surface of the drum. In a second embodiment, the ridge is made of separate elements 100 fastened to the belt (see Fig. 4). In a third embodiment, the edges of the drums are circumferentially bevelled and the belts are provided at each of their lateral edges with a ridge of V-shaped cross-section (perhaps constructed as in the two embodiments described above) which engage with the bevels.
