Abstract

1508524 Multi-stage flash evaporator R SAARI 24 June 1976 26231/76 Heading BIB A multi-stage flash evaporator (one embodiment thereof being shown in Figs. 3 and 5) comprises a horizontal elongated shell 10' divided into stages by partitions 13' which are spaced from the bottom of the shell 10' to provide openings for flow of liquid, each stage being provided with an inclined baffle 15 which contacts the bottom of shell 10' and the partition 13' at the upstream end of the stage, and vertical baffles 16 extending the full length of the stage and upwardly from the baffle 15. The apparatus shown also comprises baffles 17 and 20. Liquid entering a stage flows into space 23 below baffle 15 upwardly and over baffles 16 into space 24 above baffle 15 from which space liquid flows to the next stage. Vapour condenses on tubes 11', the condensate being removed via troughs 18'. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the shell is open at its top and is mounted in a cylindrical housing in which the condenser tubes are located below the shell. Each inclined baffle extends the full width of a stage and is provided with two slots from the longitudinal edges of which the vertical baffles extend upwardly.
