1507893 Presser foot R B HOWELL 27 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 12973/75 Heading D1G A presser foot 12 comprises a relatively thick and stiff heel portion 18 a relatively thick and stiff toe portion 30 joined by a relatively thin flexible portion 22 and a presser surface (24, Fig. 2 not shown) which when the foot is in the machine clear of the work slopes downwards from heel to toe, the intermediate portion flexing, when the surface abuts the work to press flatly on the work. The intermediate portion can also flex to allow the passage of a thicker portion of the work. The portion 22 comprises two arms with a space therebetween. Grooves 34, 36 beneath the toe portion, separated by a divider 44 accommodate and guide the fastener string 48 of a sliding clasp fastener being sewn to material 52. The heel 18 includes a transverse slideway 14 frictionally secured in the mounting shank 10 to allow transverse adjustment of the foot, which may be a plastics injection moulding. In another embodiment (Figs. 7-9 not shown) the presser foot (60) is split longitudinally to provide three cantilever portions (70, 72, 74) of reduced thickness to provide the flexible portion, the toe being in three parts, the part at the end of the centre portion providing guide grooves (80, 82) separated by a divider (84).
