Abstract

Combining sheet material. - One or more central webs are passed vertically downwards through a trough of stiffening-material, and combined with other webs by pressure between rollers. The trough 1 is fitted with shutters 4 and adjustable scrapers 3 separated by an aperture through which the web 2 passes. One or two webs 25, 27 and 26, 28 are then pressed upon the web on each side by rollers 24. The shutters 4 are adjustable vertically and may be used to cut off the supply of stiffening material on one side of the web. The width of the passage for the web may be adjusted to different widths of web by means of bars 15 of different thicknesses or sliding bars. The impregnated web may, as it issues from the trough, be coated with shoddy, cork dust, &c. by means of an air blast.
