Abstract

1507369 Producing light-weight concrete H KATZENBERGER 27 June 1975 [8 July 1974 (2)] 27311/75 Heading C1H Light-weight concrete is produced by expanding a granulated plastics material in the absence of other concrete ingredients other than are there incidentally or any water that may be present from the expansion step, the expansion being at least completed in a mixer, and then mixing with the expanded plastics material in the mixer the other ingredients including a binding agent and an inorganic aggregate. In an embodiment, granulated polystyrene is introduced into a concrete mixer designed as a pressure tank and is expanded therein. After a time, the pressure is reduced and cement, sand and water are introduced.
