Abstract

1,274,735. Lightweight aggregate concretes. MOLTRASIO ENG. S.R.L. 10 Sept., 1969 [10 Sept., 1968], No. 44640/69. Headings C1A and C1H. Particulate reinforcement suitable as a replacement for pebbles in the manufacture of concrete comprises particles composed of baked clay having a plurality of cavities and pits formed therein during the baking by gasification of particles of plastics material distributed in the clay prior to baking. The particulate reinforcement may be prepared by mixing clay and particles of plastics material to form a wet mixture, dividing the mixture into particles and then drying and baking the particles. The plastics material may be expanded plastics material, preferably expanded polystyrene, and may be incorporated in the clay in an amount between 10 and 50% by volume of the clay prior to baking.
