The casing 1 is fixed on a hollow pillar supported on a stand, and a rod 7, supporting a bracket or the like, passes through the cylinder 2 into the pillar. The height of the bracket is adjusted by raising or lowering the rod 7 and securing it in position by forcing the member 2 into the conical chamber of the casing 1, causing it to grip the rod 7.
