Abstract

1506902 Furnace walls CARBORUNDUM CO 27 Feb 1975 [6 March .1974] 8174/75 Heading F4B A furnace wall comprises an outer metal shell 52 against which layers of fibrous refractory material 56 are held by pins 10 having grooves 18 engaged by the lower portions 30 of countersunk holes 24 in refractory washers 22, the pins being held by steel sockets 40 attached to said shell 52. Each socket has an annular groove engaged by a similar groove 14 in the pin. Each washer has two substantially circular contiguous holes 26 and 27, the first engaging the groove 18 and the second being large enough to pass over the pin itself. The pins are made of a mixture of alumina, mullite and kaolin with a binder of colloidal aluminium phosphate and the material 56 is fibrous aluminium silicate.
