Abstract
1506765 Control of dust during coal transportation COMINCO Ltd 19 Sept 1975 38479/75 Headings C4X and C5G Coal in an open-top hopper car is treated for the suppression of losses due to the action of wind on the surface of the coal while the car is in motion by wetting the surface of the coal with a treatment composition consisting of an aqueous suspension containing at least 2À5% by weight binder material and containing 0À1 to 2À0% by weight wetting agent to form a flexible crust on the coal, the binder material being solid material contained in an aqueous suspension of an asphalt emulsion concentrate or a lignin sulphonate product derived from black liquor obtained from wood pulp in the soda or sulphate process, the wetting agent being a water-soluble ethoxylated alkyl phenol or sulphosuccinate, the treatment composition being formed by mixing the wetting agent and the aqueous suspension of an asphalt emulsion or a lignin sulphonate, and the composition being used in a quantity sufficient to penetrate to a depth of 2À5 to 6 inches.
