Abstract

1506613 Separating isotopes INSTRUMENTS SA 6 June 1975 [7 June 1974] 24466/75 Heading G6P In a method of separating isotopes of uranium using selective photo-excitation followed by ionization of the excited atoms and collection of the ions, the exciting radiation is from a rhodamine 6G or B laser using monochromatic radiation selected from the hyperfine structures of the following spectral lines (all in Angstrom units): 5500À69, 5511À49, 5557À87, 5564À17, 5610À89, 5620À78, 5621À51, 5634À32, 5634À38, 5780À59, 5781À95, 5782À81, 5915À40, 5971À50, 5976À32, 5986À10 and 6077À29. The uranium is irradiated in the vapour phase and irradiation can take place in the cavity of the laser. The ionization energy can be supplied by another laser, e.g. containing helium, neon, krypton or ionized argon, or a mercury or xenon arc.
