Abstract

1506451 Lamp failure alarms BRITISH AIRPORTS AUTHORITY 27 Jan 1976 [30 Jan 1975] 4130/75 Heading G4N Failure of a lamp in an airfield lighting circuit is detected by causing a signal to be transmitted along the supply circuit when a lamp fails and picking-up this signal at an alarm circuit. As shown, a 50 Hz, variable voltage, constantcurrent power source 1 supplies over a loop 2 and via transformers 4 a plurality of lamps 8. Selected lamps or groups of lamps are connected to the transformer secondary windings by signal generating and transmitting circuits 10 which each include a semi-conductor driver circuit which detects open-circuiting of its associated lamp to cause a 4 kHz signal to be transmitted to the loop 2. A 4 kHz detector circuit and alarm relay 12 detects this signal, by means of a transformer 6, to operate an alarm. Each circuit 10 may transmit an individual frequency.
