Abstract
The voltage converter, for portable equipment e.g. a radar set magnetron, has a pulsed transistor switch periodically connecting the dc supply through to a transformer primary winding. The load is connected to the secondary via a smoothing circuit and rectifier. An inductor (D2) is connected in series with the primary and acts as a load for the control loop. In a second configuration four transistor switches are employed and a capacitor is coupled in series with the primary in addition to an inductor. The advantage of both arrangements lies in reducing voltage spikes and current surges and in being highly efficient.
