Abstract
1505875 Insulator CERAVER 9 Sept 1975 [12 Sept 1974 25 Nov 1974] 37149/75 Heading H2C An insulator comprises an insulating tube 6 or 14 with a metallic fitting 9 at each end, each fitting having a shoulder 10 or 15 with a diameter larger than the diameter of a cylindrical portion of the tube 6 or 14; the cylindrical surface of tube 6 or 14 is joined to the surface of each shoulder by a surface (formed on mass 13 or 29) which is hyperboloid. Resin coated glass filaments are wound at a specified winding angle to produce a layer 30 which surrounds the tube and metal fittings; insulating resin is moulded about layer 30 to provide a finned outer surface. Tube 14 is filled with foamed resin 16, plugs 17, 18 having higher dielectric constants than filling 16 being arranged adjacent a metal insert 19 in the end of the tube. Alternatively tube 14 may be gas filled. In Fig. 7, not shown, the core (36) is a homogeneous mass of resin impregnated glass fibres and the tube 30 is formed by winding on resin coated glass filaments.
