Abstract

1505791 Centrifugal pumps COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 11 March 1976 [18 March 1975] 09867/76 Heading F1C A rotary machine, e.g. a pump for circulating liquid metal, comprises a vertical shaft 2 with an impeller wheel 1 at its lower end mounted within a casing with integral guide vanes 4a coaxial with a removable sleeve 6 having a cylindrical portion 6a and a convergent portion 6b which may carry ribs 6c, a fluid bearing 30 being mounted beneath the shaft. The bearing 30 is formed by a rotor 8 which comprises an impeller wheel 24 carrying ducts 24a which convey fluid from the highpressure side of the pump via a duct 26 and an axial chamber 24b to recesses 24c in the outer surface of the rotor to provide it with lift, the ducts 24a being tangential to the periphery of chamber 24b, the fluid then leaking into the lowpressure fluid circuit via exhaust ports 22 and duct 28.
