Abstract

1505537 Spreading webs MOUNT HOPE MACHINERY Ltd 3 April 1975 [6 May 1974] 13644/75 Heading B8R A bored bar for spreading slit webs comprises a shell provided with end caps in which are arranged bores for location of shell stressing means in the form of bolts 4, 5, 6 provided with nuts, one bolt 4, inducing a longitudinal stress in the shell to bore it in a plane A which contains the desired bore, another bolt 5 induces a longitudinal stress in a plane B to counteract the stress induced by the web tension and the further bolt 6 inducing a longitudinal stress in a plane C to counter shell flexure due to weight of the shell. The shell is provided along the length and an arcuate portion thereof with holes 13 for supplying compressed air, fed via a bore 12, to form an air bearing between the periphery of the shell and the web.
