Abstract
1505527 Testing flue gas SNAMPROGETTI SpA 20 May 1975 [21 May 1974] 21646/75 Heading G1B [Also in Division F1] The smoke density of a flue gas is determined by a method comprising sampling the flue gas as by means of probe 4, cooling the flue gas sample by heat exchange with a cooling fluid in a jacket comprising fluid inlet and outlet 5, 6, passing the cooled flue gas sample through a filtering device 7 and comparing the spot produced on a filter means 8 in the filtering device with standard soot spots representing flue gas having a known smoke density. In the device shown, the filter means 8 is of filter paper and the cooled gases also pass through a condenser 9 and a drying chamber 10 containing silica gel for trapping acid substances dissolved in condensate. Flue gases are drawn into sampling probe 4 by sunction produced on operation of a double headed piston 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), the gases being exhausted from the suction device on each compression stroke through electric valve 14.
