Abstract

1503998 Pile-drivers VAN KOOTEN BV 5 Dec 1975 [10 Dec 1974] 49937/75 Heading B3H A Diesel pile-driver comprises a combustion cylinder 3, a piston 1, a striker 2 extending into the cylinder 3, a first supply means for supplying fuel to the cylinder and a second supply means for supplying at least one substance affecting the combustion velocity. A pair of diametrically opposed nozzles 30a supply Diesel fuel 38 to two locations (14), Fig. 5 (not shown), while a further pair of diametrically opposed nozzles 30b supply a substance 39, which may be petrol or kerosene. A pile driver may be supplied with Diesel fuel and petrol or benzene, the supply of Diesel fuel Y, Fig. 9, being increased progressively as the hardness Z of the ground increases. Over a hardness range of Z 1 -Z 2 , petrol is supplied in a diminishing quantity X and over a range of Z 2 -Z 3 only Diesel fuel is supplied. At hardness Z 3 and thereafter benzene is supplied in increasing quantity W. Kerosene may be used instead of Diesel fuel when driving piles into soft ground and ethanol or methanol may be used as decelerators with Diesel fuel, while kerosene requires light grades of petrol.
