Abstract
1503966 Metal-vapour lamps PATENTTREUHAND - GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 24 June 1975 [1 Aug 1974] 26797/75 Addition to 1471454 Heading H1D In a low pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp, e.g. a fluorescent lamp, containing the amalgam-forming metals indium, magnesium and tin, the magnesium component comprises 5-50 mol per cent and the tin component 1-40 mol per cent of the total amount of amalgam forming metal. The addition of tin, in the proportion specified, to the particular amalgam of the parent Specification 1,471,454 enables the amount of indium required to be reduced by 60%; thus as in total less amalgam-forming metals are required they may be provided as a coating on one stem only of the lamp. Preferably the molar ratio of amalgam-forming metals to mercury is in the range 20 : 1 to 1 : 1, and in an example given the amalgam has the composition Hg 1 In 4 Mg 0À67 Sn 0À45 .
