Abstract

1503892 Lifting apparatus HOFMANN GmbH & CO KG MASCHINENFABRIK Gebr 5 May 1976 [17 July 1975] 18477/76 Heading B8L A lifting apparatus for vehicles comprises a vertically displaceable carriage 1 having at least one load supporting arm 3 mounted thereon for pivoting in a horizontal plane, and a clamping member 6 movable between an operative positive in which the arm 3 is clamped to resist pivotal movement and an inoperative position permitting free pivotal movement of the arm, the member 6 becoming operative once the carriage rises above a predetermined height. The clamping member 6 frictionally clamps a lug 5 on the arm 3 against the carriage 1 under the force of a spring 8, the latter being compressed to unclamp the arm as a depending part of the member 6 engages an adjustable abutment as the carriage is lowered. The force of the clamping member 6 may be increased by forming the member 6 as an eccentric or elbow member. In another embodiment the clamping member positively engages a recess in the arm.
