Abstract

1502403 Sharpening pointed articles S WYLIE 21 Jan 1977 [10 March 1976] 09546/76 Heading B3D A device for sharpening a pointed article, such as a dart, comprises a bar 1 having an abrasive surface 7, a slider 2 movable along the bar, a hollow rotatable spindle 5 to receive the article mounted on the slider so that its axis is at an angle to the surface 7 and lies in a plane at right angles to the direction of movement, and drive means 10 to produce rotation of the spindle by movement of the slider. The abrasive surface 7 on the bar may be provided by a releasably retained abrasive sheet or by abrasive particles bonded to the surface. The slider 2 is in the shape of a drum 3 slotted to embrace the bar. The spindle 5 is rotatable in the slider and is integral with a grooved pulley 6 accessible through a second slot 12 in the slider. The spindle is hollow and'its end 8 is accessible at one end of the slider so as to receive a dart point which, when received in the bore of the spindle, engages the abrasive surface 7. An elastic band or cord 10 constitutes the drive means and is entrained about notched caps 11 on the end of the bar, one flight of the band extending at least partly around the pulley 6 so that as the slider is moved along the bar, the spindle 5 is rotated, the dart point being rotated relative to the abrasive surface.
