A grinding wheel trueing apparatus comprises an arm 2 which is adapted to carry a dressing tool 5 for swivelling movement on a base 1 for effecting radius dressing movement of the tool in rotation to a grinding wheel G, the tool being mounted for reciprocation transversely of the arm for angle dressing of the grinding wheel upon angular setting of the arm about its swivel mounting. The swivel mounting is provided by a spindle position 3 of the arm mounted in the base 1 and at its outer end is provided with a slide 6 for a holder 4 of the dressing tool 5. The slide is reciprocatable along a guideway by a rack-and-pinion mechanism 7 actuated by a knob 9. The slide may be located in a central position by a spring-pressed ball 10. The arm can be set at a desired angular position by a sine bar 11 releasably mounted in a slot 14 in the slide 6. A stop 16 can be adjusted on a disc 19 secured to the spindle 3 to contact a finger 20 on the base to position the arm at the set angle. The arm can be set at an opposite angle using the sine bar and positioned by a second adjustable stop on the disc. Swivelling of the arm is effected by a handle 21 for radius dressing of the wheel and angle dressing at each of the positions determined by the stops is effected by reciprocation of the slide 6 by the knob 9. In another embodiment, the rack-and-pinion mechanism 7 is connected by a universally-jointed shaft to a knob adjacent the handle 21. In a further embodiment, the slide 6 can be locked in a central position by a spring-loaded plunger.
