Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent interference between a work and a tool not being used by a method wherein a turret is rotated from a tool holding position of the side portion of a spindle head to a tool replacing position closest to the spindle according to the movement of the spindle head. CONSTITUTION:A spindle head 16 is first driven by a Z-axis driving motor to move upward along a ball spline shaft 24. In this case, a tool turret 26 of a tool replacing mechanism 20 also moves in the direction of Z-axis together with the spindle head 16 because it is also pulled upward by a spring 36 constantly. When a rotary arm 42 contacts the lower end of a stopper member 32a having an adjusted length. The upward movement of the arm 42 and tool turret 26 are blocked. Then, since the continuous movement of the spindle head 16 causes the rotary arm 42 to rotate about a pin 44 as a center, the tool turret 26 rotates from a tool holding position at the side of the pindle shead 16 moving to a tool replacing position closest to the spindle 18.
