Abstract

1502260 Measuring fluid-flow GEORGE KENT Ltd 29 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 18737/74 Heading G1R A bluff-body 3 arranged on a pipe 1 to measure fluid-flow has a central aperture of similar shape to its periphery. The body may be rectangular rather than circular as shown, the pipe being also of rectangular section. The annulus may be circular in section rather than rectangular as shown. Sensing means may be a hot wire anemometer 7. Thermistors or Piezo-electric devices may be used. In another arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), an annular bluff body has a radial gap (23) to the facing surfaces of which are attached capacitor plates 27. Vortex shedding causes variations in the gap which results in capacitance changes which are sensed to indicate flow-rate.
