Abstract

1500854 Lubricants etc; modifying flow properties; liquid fuels CALGON CORP 29 Jan 1976 [3 Feb 1975] 03584/76 Headings C5E C5F and C5G [Also in Division C2 and El] The friction in a flowing hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon liquid is reduced by adding a quaternary ammonium salt of an essentially ungraded cellulose sulphate having a degree of substitution of at least 2, in which the quaternary ammonium radical comprises four aromatic or aliphatic substituents (up to C 22 ) or both, provided that the number of carbon atoms in the four together is at least 16. Liquids that may be treated include crude oil, gasoline, kerosine, alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes, alkadienes, alkynes, arenes, diesel fuel, mineral spirits, turpentine, trichlorethylene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and LPG. Treated crude oil or kerosine may be used as a fracturing fluid in fracturing subterranean wells.
