Abstract

1500773 Supply system for arc generators; converting UNION CARBIDE CORP 27 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 13023/75 Headings H2H and H2F A supply system of an ozone corona generator 45, comprises a D.C. source 10 in series with the primary of a transformer 38 and at least 2 series connected thyristors 31, 32, the load 45 being connected with the secondary of the transformer 38, and the thyristors being unequal with respect to their forward voltage drop characteristic. As shown, the thyristors 31, 32 are gated simultaneously by h.f. oscillator 20 and in operation are turned off by a reverse voltage generated in the transformer primary circuit by the collapse of the arc in the load 45. The provision of two or more series thyristors increases the reverse voltage time in each cycle and the inequality of the devices reduces the turn off time of the pair. The inequality may be produced by the parallel connection of resistor/ capacitor circuits with respective thyristors.
