Abstract

1500199 Loud-speakers ALLISON ACOUSTICS Inc 27 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 8237/75 Headings H4S and H4X A loud-speaker system 10 (Fig. 1A) comprises an enclosure having a closed rear wall 16 for placement against a room boundary wall 28 and side walls 14 extending from the rear wall 16. A low frequency loud-speaker 24 is mounted on a side wall 14, the included angle between the walls 14 and 16 being not greater than 90 degrees. The distance from the centre of the bass loud-speaker 24 to the rear edge of the side wall 14 and to a second edge of the wall 14 adjacent the rear edge is not more than half the smallest outside dimension of the side wall 14. The loud-speaker 24 is of cone type and has an effective frequency range the upper limit of which is substantially equal to, but not greater than, that frequency above which the mounting panel reduces the effective radiation angle of the cone loud-speaker and whose wavelength is equal to twice the minimum outside dimension of the mounting panel. Middle and high frequency loud-speakers 20 and 22 are flush mounted on front wall 12 for good distribution of sound into the room. The loud-speaker system 10 rests on a table 11 near the edge 30 formed by wall and floor. When the system is placed adjacent one, two or three boundary walls (e.g. room walls, floor) a relatively flat frequency response is obtained and acoustic power output is enhanced. Thus the loudspeaker system 10 may be placed on the floor 26 near the wall 28 (Fig. 1B, not shown). In another arrangement (Fig. 2) low frequency loud-speaker 24 is mounted on the top wall 18 of an enclosure 10 supported on a shelf 27 in the corner of a room. Alternatively two low frequency loudspeakers 24 (Fig. 3) driven in phase are mounted on side walls 14a of an enclosure 10 having a rear wall 32. The path length B, along the outside of the enclosure, between the centres C of the two loudspeakers 24 is not greater than about the minimum outside dimension of the panels 14a.
