Abstract

An improved one-room speaker system for use in combination with intersecting first and second room boundary surfaces, the system comprising direct transmission sound reproduction means comprising at least one cone speaker having a field of frequencies extending at least as low as 100 Hz and a box or enclosure comprising a closed end wall for placement immediately adjacent to said first room boundary surface, characterized in that said box also includes a panel mounting for each of said cone speakers, each of said mounting panels having a predetermined minimum dimension, which defines a predetermined frequency above which said panel reduces the effective radiation angle of its cone speaker, each extending one of said mounting panels away from said end wall, providing a bor from the front, a side edge and a back edge, said back edge forming a limit with said end wall, the angle included between said end wall and each of said mounting panels not exceeding approximately 90º and said side edge being arranged to its placement closely adjacent to said second room boundary surface, when said end wall is located closely adjacent to said first room boundary surface, each of said cone speakers being generally flush mounted and generally parallel to the exposed surface of one of said mounting panels, the distance along each of said mounting panels being from the center of said cone speaker to each of said lateral edge and trailing edge not greater than half of said predetermined minimum dimension of said mounting panel, whereby said room boundary surfaces reduce the angle of radia effective tion of each of said cone speakers at frequencies below said predetermined frequency.
