Abstract

1499838 Flywheel driven toy motor cars NOMURA TOYS Ltd 15 Aug 1975 34119/75 Heading A6S A toy motor car is driven by a fly wheel 4 and includes a safety device and a group of transmission gears 7, the fly wheel being fixed to a shaft 5 and the safety device comprising a pair of clutch members 6, 9 one of which (6) is attached co-axially to a face of the fly wheel or is integral with it and the other of which clutch members is attached to or forms part of an idler pinnion 8 which is rotatably and slidably mounted on the shaft 5, and meshes with one of the gears 7. A coiled spring 10 urges the idler pinion towards the fly wheel so that the clutch members 6 and 9 remain in mesh when the car is being driven freely by the fly wheel but disengage if one of the driving wheels is suddenly stopped. In use a player grips the body frame 1 of the toy and rotates the driving wheels 2 by pressing them repeatedly against a floor and drawing the car across it. The fly wheel 4 is thus accelerated and can be used to drive the car. The safety device prevents damage to fingers should they become trapped between a drive wheel and the body frame 1.
