Abstract

Stair rods; stair-rod eyes.-Relates to stairrods having spring-controlled telescopic ends for engaging, the. eyes, and consists in constructing the rods so that the ends of the main portion form rigid shoulders which lie close to the sides of the eyes when the rod is in use, end portions of smaller diameter extending directly from the shoulders, through the eyes, and one or both of these end portions being telescopic. Figs. 1 and 7 show constructions in which a reduced end d" which passes through an eye b<1> is normally pressed outwards by a spring e, lying within the hollow main part a of the rod, which has shoulders a<4>, a<5>. In the modifications show in Figs. 3 and S, a spring e normally forces the end d<11> inwards. An open-fronted eye is used with the rods shown in Figs. 3, 7, and 8. In fixing the rods shown in Figs. 3 and 8, the end portion d<11> is pulled out to allow the stem d<4> to pass through the gap in the eye; with the rod shown in Fig. 7, the end is pushed in until the narrow part d<6> can pass through the gap.
