Abstract

1497842 Polycarbonates derived from bisphenol mixtures BAYER AG 6 May 1976 [7 May 1975 17 Dec 1975 27 Nov 1975] 18625/76 Heading C3R Aromatic polycarbonates having a halogen content of from 2 to 45% by weight comprising 0 to 45% by weight of bromine and 0 to 27% by weight of chlorine are prepared in conventional manner from a mixture of bisphenols obtained by the partial chlorination and/or bromination of a bisphenol. The polycarbonates may be mixed with carbon black, carbon fibres or up to 40% by weight, based on the composition, of glass fibres. The examples describe preparing polycarbonates from a mixture of bisphenols prepared by the partial chlorination and/or bromination of bisphenol A using p-tertbutylphenol as a chain terminating agent.
