Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate having flame retardancy, impact resistance and excellent transparency, by giving two specific repeating units, pentahalogenophenoxy groups on its terminals and keeping the content of halogen atoms within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate having repeating units A of formula I (wherein X<1>-X<4> are each a halogen atom) and repeating units B of formula II and pentahalogenophenoxy groups of formula III (wherein X<5>-X<9> are each a halogen atom) on its terminals and whose content of halogen atoms are 3-20wt.% is prepd. Said polycarbonate can be roughly divided into two grades in accordance with the applications. One of them is suitable for extrusion molding and its flow rate is 5X10<-2>ml/sec or smaller. Another one is suitable for injection molding and its viscosity-average mol.wt. is 10,000 or larger and its flow rate is 5X10<-2>ml/sec or larger.
