Abstract

1400715 Graft polymers and compositions thereof IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Sept 1972 [14 Oct 1971 1 Nov 1971] 47793/71 and 50637/71 Heading C3G A graft copolymer has a diene rubber substrate and a superstrate which is a homogeneous copolymer comprising acrylonitrile and aromatic olefin, the diene rubber substrate and the superstrate having refractive indices differing by 0À003 and 0À008 from each other. A graft copolymer having a diene rubber substrate and a superstrate which is a homogeneous copolymer of acrylonitrile and an aromatic olefin may be blended with a homogeneous acrylonitrile/ aromatic olefin resin containing 86 to 93% molar of units of acrylonitrile, the blend containing 1 to 50% by weight of rubber, the resin having a refractive index of at least 0À002 unit lower than that of the superstrate and the resin, substrate and superstrate having refractive indices differing from each other by from 0 to 0À008. In the examples, a butadienestyrene rubber is grafted with acrylonitrile and styrene and blended with acrylonitrile-styrene resin.
