Abstract

1497175 Safety walls surrounding storage tanks BOUWMAATSCHAPPIJ NEDERHORST BV 17 Nov 1975 [13 May 1975] 47296/75 Heading E1T A cylindrical, circumferentially closed and prestressed concrete safety wall 2 surrounds a storage tank 1 with a relatively small interspace and rests freely on a horizontal floor 4, the wall 2 being circumferentially prestressed by sheathed tensioning wires 5 which do not bond to the concrete. The wires may be tensioned in grease filled plastics tubes and may form overlapping arcs, e.g. of a third the peripheral length around the tank circumference. The wall 2 may be mounted on cellular rubber supports 7, 10 sealed by foamed cement or polystyrene fillets 8, 9, 11, and centered by an upstanding annular rib 6. Wrinkled sealing strips embedded in or fixed to the surface of the concrete may be provided alternatively to the fillets. The tank 1 and floor 4 may be provided with an insulating coating.
