Abstract
1496611 Corner reflectors; sound reflectors AUSTRALIA COMMONWEALTH OF 2 Jan 1975 [3 Jan 1974] 135/75 Headings H4A and H4X A radar or sonar system has a corner reflector which comprises a dihedral 1, 2 and a ground surface 3, all mutually perpendicular, the surface being defined as a boundary between any two of land, sea and air. The reflected beams may be permanently or temporarily swung off the symmetry axis by the formation of effective apertures in either of the plates 1 or 2 (Fig. 11, not shown). The beam may be controlled in elevation by suitably shaping the plates 1, 2 (Figs. 9, 10, not shown). Combinations of the modified corner reflectors may be used as aircraft landing aids (Figs. 12-15, not shown) or marine navigation aids (Fig. 18, not shown). In radar, circular polarization may be used at angles of elevation less than that corresponding to the Brewster angle for the surface 3. Dihedrals may be stacked to give an omnidirectional reflector (Fig. 7, not shown). The ground surface may be modified by levelling and/or by being overlaid by a wire mesh.
