Abstract

1496536 Piling hammers W A DAWSON Ltd 2 June 1976 [6 March 1975] 9347/75 Heading B3H A piling hammer adapted to be suspended over a pile or piles 3 is provided with a depending frame 1 on which are mounted wheels 2 adapted to engage the surfaces of the pile or piles during driving. When driving pairs of interlocked piles, the frame is in two halves, each of which conforms to one side of the pair of piles. A resilient tyre may be mounted on each wheel and where these are mounted in pairs, the gap between them is narrower than the thickness of the pile to ensure a positive grip. Alternatively the wheel axles may be resiliently mounted or they may be mounted in sub-frames resiliently mounted on the frame 1. The lower ends of the frame halves diverge to assist in guiding the frame 1 on to the piles before driving. During driving the wheels maintain a grip on the pile thereby preventing the hammer from falling off and the noise generated is reduced, especially when tyres are fitted.
