Abstract
1496257 Electric arc furnaces; burners TOSHIN SEIKO KK 9 Sept 1975 36996/75 Headings F4B and F4T [Also in Division C7] In an electric arc furnace for refining steel, the upper furnace wall 2 is made of carbonaceous bricks and has embedded therein a series of water-cooled boxes 41. Oxygen-oil burners 3, mounted on a movable frame, are positioned in the wall 2 and protrude into the furnace between water-cooled frames 30, 31. The furnace roof 4 is of chrome magnesite brick and is provided with a water-cooled ring 42 leading to a water-cooled elbow 6 of the suction exhaust system, the ring 42 being mounted on the furnace ring frame 43 and being embedded in the roof 4 by high alumina cement 46, which cement also surrounds the holes for the electrodes. The burner 3 comprises a water-cooled cylinder 15 housing a burner cylinder 16 supplied with oil through pipe 19 and air through pipe 20, the air being supplied in a helical path by vane 21 on the outside of pipe 19. The air-oil mixture is then agitated by vane 22, rotated by passage of the oil-air mixture. The cylinder 15 also houses oxygen supply pipes 17 such that O 2 jets converge upon the jet issuing from the burner orifice 26.
