Abstract

1496162 Bearings VANDERVELL PRODUCTS Ltd 14 Feb 1975 [14 Feb 1974] 18973/77 Divided out of 1496161 Heading F2A A bearing for a vehicle axle has an aluminium alloy block 10 with a part cylindrical recess, containing a bearing liner 15 or bearing lining, extending along one face thereof between opposed ends of the block, the corner between the recess and end face being radiused at least at one end of the block, and the bearing including a curved flange 27 covering the corner provided in a thrust plate 25. Alternatively, the curved flange may be provided on the bearing liner, and the thrust plate is flat. The alloy is preferably an aluminium silicon alloy and the bearing liner may be of backed or unbacked fine grained lead based babbit strip or tin based babbit. The thrust plate may be of an aluminium silicon alloy which may be reinforced with fibre or backed with steel.
