Abstract

1384071 Bearings VANDERVELL PRODUCTS Ltd 5 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971 29 Sept 1971 12 Oct 1971 10 Nov 1971 31 Jan 1972] 42199/71 454081/71 47545/71 52194/71 and 4479/72 Heading F2A A bearing for a railway axle comprises a bearing block 10 of aluminium silicon alloy having a part-cylindrical recess 11 into which is forced a liner 12 having a preformed bearing surface. The liner is forced into the recess by at least one key 15 engaging an axially extending edge of the liner. The liner comprises a steel backing and a layer of bearing material, e.g. lead based babbitt. The liner may have radially extending faces 14 for receiving axial load. The keys comprise elongate members which extend along the recess on either side of the liner. The keys may be held in place by screws which project beyond the steel backing of the liner, so that when the liner wears, the screws are engaged by the shaft before the backing.
