Abstract

1495581 Vehicle electrical systems DUCELLIER & CIE 6 Feb 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 5019/75 Heading H2H In the electrical system of the motor vehicle the device indicating that the alternator of the vehicle is not generating comprises one or more light emitting diodes. An alternator 1, 2, 3 of a motor vehicle is connected so as to charge a battery 13 by way of a full wave rectifier 5-10, the output of the alternator being controlled by means of a regulator 12 acting upon the field winding 15 of the alternator. With the alternator stationary, closure of the ignition switch 14 will cause a light emitting diode 16 to be illuminated since the battery voltage at point B is above the phase voltage of the alternator at point A. When the alternator is being driven the phase voltage at point A is approximately equal to the battery voltage and the diode 16 then emits no light. A diode 20 prevents discharge of the battery into the alternator. In a further embodiment the phase voltage at the point A is used to control the conduction of a transistor placed in parallel with the light emitting diode.
