Abstract
1494310 Vacuum cleaner dust container assembly ELECTROLUX Ltd 13 Sept 1976 [16 Sept 1975] 37775/76 Heading A4F [Also in Division B I ] A vacuum cleaner dust container assembly of the type comprising an air-permeable bag 11 and an end plate 12 having an opening 13 through which dust enters the bag is characterized by the provision of a flow-path for air in the end plate which extends at least partly in the plane of the end-plate. The end-plate may comprise layers 12a, 12b, the latter layer being provided with holes 14, 15 inter-connected by a groove 16, the arrangement being such that when the layers are glued together, a flow-path for air is formed between the two layers. In a modification, Fig.3 (not shown), the top layer of the end-plate may be provided with a groove, through holes being provided in the bottom layer. Alternatively, a grooved plate may be suitably disposed between the two layers, or a groove may be formed by a recess in both layers, or a through groove may be formed in the bottom layer. The dust container is designed to form part of a system which ensures that the cleaner will only operate continuously if the dust container is present in its working position, as illustrated in Fig.2. In this case, when the cleaner is switched on, negative pressure is applied via hole 30, bellows 29, hole 14, groove 16, hole 15 and channel 24 to space 23 so as to move diaphragm 18 up against the action of spring 19. This causes rod 27 to move up and hold push button depressed, thereby keeping the motor/fan unit running. In the event where no dust container is present, the bellows 29 will expand to contact the end-plate 28 thereby blocking the negative pressure path, and space 23 will be subject to atmospheric pressure. In this case, when the push button is operated to start the motor/fan unit, lack of negative pressure in space 23 causes rod 27 to be held down by spring 19. This means that the push button cannot be held in the depressed ON position, so that when the push button is released, it returns to the OFF position.
