Abstract

1489555 Vacuum cleaners GOBLIN (BVC) Ltd 18 April 1976 05458/76 Heading A4F [Also in Division B1] A vacuum cleaner of the upright or cylinder type has an assembly which is removable from the rest of the cleaner and which has slots 11, 12 in which a stiff portion 13 of a dust bag 9 can be releasably engaged so that the assembly and a dirt-laden bag can be removed and the dirt-laden bag released, e.g. into a dust bin, without the bag being touched. As shown the dust bag 9 has a stiff portion 13, in which an inlet aperture with a resilient sealing lip 13 is formed, and opposed side edges received in slots 11, 12 and retained by arms 21, 22 which are attached to a crosspiece 20 biased by springs 26, 27 so that the arms 21, 22 normally engage in cutouts 33, 34 in the side edges of the dust bag. When the dust bag is full, the assembly comprising a cover 4, having a handle (6) as in Fig. 3 (not shown), and the inner housing 10, in which the slots 11, 12 are formed, is removed from the cleaner with the bag attached. Subsequently when a safety catch 8 is moved to unblock a trigger 7 and the trigger is pulled, the trigger moves the crosspiece 20 against the spring-bias and the arms 21, 22 are released from the cut-outs 33, 34 allowing the dust bag to drop away from the assembly.
