Printing-processes; printing-surfaces; platen machines; copying documents.-In a lithographic process for reproducing writings and designs, a special lithographic stone, and acid preparations and inks for use with it, are provided. The stone consists of two parts of glass and one part of porcelain clay fused together, and the plate produced is surfaced by aid of emery or hydrofluoric acid. An original is written in an ink comprising a mixture of ammonia, gallic acid, ferrous sulphate, water and glycerine, and this is laid on the stone after treating the stone with a preparation composed of chloride of magnesium, zinc, or aluminium, water, hydrochloric acid and glycerine. It is pressed on the stone 3 mounted on the box 1, by a removable cover 2 having a felt pad on its underside, pressure being applied by springs 8 having handles 9 and hooks 10 for connecting them to knobs 6 on the cover. After removal of the original, the stone is treated with a preparation composed of glycerine, benzoic acid, and caustic soda. It is then rubbed with cotton wool soaked in a printing-ink consisting of 60 parts of ordinary lithographic ink mixed with 40 parts of glycerine. The ink is used for printing from the stone by the usual lithographic operations.
