Abstract

1493628 IC engine with main and auxiliary combustion chambers BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 18 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 18361/74 Heading F1B A spark ignition I.C. engine comprises a main combustion chamber 18 to which air-fuel mixture is supplied via an intake duct 16, an auxiliary combustion chamber 19 connected to the main combustion chamber 18 via a passage 20, and ignition means 38 in the auxiliary combustion chamber to ignite fuel supplied thereto by a fuel injection valve 21. In operation a solenoid 47 is energized to move a ball 44 from orifice 43 to allow fuel to pass from an inlet duct 39A to a gallery 35. After the solenoid has been de-energized, and ball 44 has reseated, a spindle 24 is caused to move downwardly by cam-shaft 23 pressurizing fuel in a volume 24a which causes nozzle valve N and cylinder 32 on which it is mounted to move upwardly for injection to occur.
