Abstract

1440876 Pre-combustion chamber IC engines NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 18 Feb 1974 [28 Feb 1973] 7204/74 Heading F1B A reciprocating piston I.C. engine comprises a piston 14 having in its crown a concave depression 38 whose circumference is substantially coincident with the circumference of the piston crown. The main combustion chamber 28 formed above the piston is connected by a flame passage 30 to an auxiliary combustion chamber 20 in which ignition is effected by a spark plug 24 of a rich mixture formed by the spray from an injector 22, Fig. 1, or supplied by a carburetter (40) via valve (42), Fig. 2 (not shown). The ignited rich mixture passes through the passage 30 to cause ignition of lean mixture supplied to the main combustion chamber from carburetter 32 via an intake port 18. The normal to the lower face 36 of the cylinder head 16 may either be parallel to the cylinder axis or may make a small acute angle with it.
