Abstract

1493029 Coating copper substrates EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 1 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 13328/75 Heading B2E A composite for use as a flexible printed circuit material is made by a process comprising (a) forming a solution of polyparabanic acid (PPA) having an inherent viscosity of 0.6 - 2.0 and a viscosity of 5000 - 40000 cos, (b) coating a thin layer of this solution directly onto a copper substrate in the absence of any intermediate adhesive, and (c) heating said thin layer in a nitrogen atmosphere to evaporate the solvent and provide a flexible composite article having relatively dry non- brittle layer of PPA strongly bonded to said copper substrate. The PPA coating may contain an adhesion promotor or coupling agent such as a silane and may be applied by a reverse roll coater.
