Abstract

1,253,432. Transfers. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 15 July, 1969 [24 July, 1968], No. 35474/69. Heading B6C. A transfer 10 to be applied to a curved surface of an article 15 comprises a stretchable transfer film 12, a design 13, a layer 14 of soluble glue and an imperforate backing substrate. The transfer film 12 is placed against housing member 19, and is held there by vacuum while it is dipped in a solvent, the glue of layer 14 loosened and the backing substrate removed. Then member 19 is applied to lower member 16, in which article 15 is enclosed, and the transfer film 12 and design 13 are applied to article 15 by application of vacuum through member 16. Preferably article 15 is a dish, and is passed through an oven or lehr after application of film 12 and design 13, so that the film 12 burns or evaporates away, leaving design 13 on the curved surface of the dish.
